About Toby Fox
Undertale began as a 2013 Kickstarter and launched September 15, 2015, built almost entirely by Toby Fox in GameMaker. Its bullet-hell battles let players spare every monster or kill them, and that choice splits the Neutral, Pacifist and Genocide routes. The writing, music and characters carried it past 5 million copies and a lasting fan scene.
Deltarune follows Kris, Susie and Ralsei through Dark Worlds in what Fox calls a parallel story, not a sequel, so no lore carries over as homework. Chapter 1 arrived free in October 2018 and Chapter 2 free in September 2021, then Chapters 3 and 4 launched as a paid release in June 2025 with Chapter 5 as a free update in June 2026. Play Undertale first, then the Deltarune chapters in order.
Good to know
Deltarune sits in a parallel world rather than continuing Undertale, so there is no single timeline joining the two games and no second list to make. Play Undertale first, then Deltarune chapters 1 through 5 in numbered order, since recruits and Castle Town progress carry across chapters. Release order and story order need no separate lists. Chapter 6 is planned for 2027 with Chapter 7 still undated.
