About Tomb Raider
Tomb Raider has rebooted Lara Croft twice. The classic era runs from the 1996 original through Angel of Darkness (2003), the Legend trilogy (2006-2008) retells her story with Anniversary remaking the 1996 game, and the Survivor trilogy (2013-2018) reboots her origin again. Release order is the recommended play order, since each era stands on its own.
Newcomers should start with Tomb Raider (2013), the Survivor opener, then play Rise and Shadow. Classic fans should use the I-III (2024) and IV-VI (2025) remasters instead of the originals. Amazon and Crystal Dynamics have dated Legacy of Atlantis, a reimagining of the 1996 game, for Feb 12, 2027, with the new story Catalyst following later in 2027.
Good to know
Legacy of Atlantis was first slated for 2026 and moved to Feb 12, 2027, per the official Tomb Raider site in Sept 2026; later reports place Catalyst after it in 2027. Anniversary (2007) replaces the 1996 original for new players. The co-op spinoffs Guardian of Light (2010) and Temple of Osiris (2014) are optional and not listed. A live-action series starring Sophie Turner is in production at Amazon and sits outside game canon.
