About Xenoblade Chronicles
Xenoblade Chronicles grew from a single Wii RPG in 2010 into a four-branch series: the numbered trilogy of 1, 2 and 3, the standalone sci-fi offshoot X, and story DLC that bridges entries. Future Connected closes Shulk's story, Torna is a prequel to 2 best played after it, and Future Redeemed ties all three numbered games together. X connects to nothing, so it can be played at any point. Release order is the play order.
Each numbered entry works as a starting point, and Nintendo's remasters are the versions to buy: Definitive Edition for 1, the 2025 Definitive Edition for X. Start with 1 if you want the full thread, or with 3 if you want modern systems from the outset.
Good to know
Years use first release in any region. Future Connected is an epilogue inside the Definitive Edition, not a separate purchase; Torna and Future Redeemed are paid DLC that also sold standalone or in expansion passes. Switch 2 upgrades for the Xenoblade library were reported through 2026. A fifth game, Xenoblade Genesis, was announced in June 2026 for 2027 and is tracked in upcoming releases.
