About Yume Nikki
Yume Nikki released June 26, 2004 as RPG Maker 2003 freeware about Madotsuki collecting dream effects, with final version 0.10a in 2012 and Steam re-release January 9, 2018 through PLAYISM. Dream Diary followed February 23, 2018 on PC with Switch in 2019 as a supervised 3D reboot.
Kadokawa and Active Gaming Media built Dream Diary with Kikiyama supervising. No sequel was made. Play either version once, not both back to back. The reboot adds guided puzzles while the original keeps open wandering. Pick the reboot for structure or the original for history.
Good to know
There is no sequel timeline since both versions tell the same dream loop with effects to collect. Release order here is original then reboot for history. New players should pick Dream Diary for clearer goals and redrawn maps. Returning players can revisit the 2004 freeware for open exploration. Treat the series as finished at two versions.
