About A Better Tomorrow
A Better Tomorrow from 1986 follows ex counterfeiter Sung Tse-kit and brother Kit plus Mark Gor across honor and betrayal. Part 2 from 1987 moves Kit undercover in New York with Ken Gor taking Mark place after the first deaths.
Part 3 from 1989 jumps back to 1974 Saigon as a prequel for Mark origin with Chow Yun-fat returning. Watch in release order since Part 3 assumes you know Mark fate. Tsui Hark took over Part 3 with Anita Mui joining, and John Woo closed the core run in 1989 with only a 2018 remake outside this list.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order for A Better Tomorrow worth listing for first viewing, since release order gives the Mark impact before the prequel. The prequel sits first in story time but spoils the original deaths. Watch Parts 1 then 2 then 3 in order for the brother arc. Watch with subtitles for slang.
