About Air Bud
Air Bud began in 1997 with Buddy the golden retriever joining Josh's basketball team. Golden Receiver (1998) moves to football, World Pup (2000) to soccer, Seventh Inning Fetch (2002) to baseball, and Spikes Back (2003) to volleyball. The Buddies run from 2006 follows Buddy's puppies across journeys, with Santa Buddies (2009) launching the Santa Paws Christmas line through 2013.
Buddy died in 1998 after the early films, with lookalikes continuing the sports run. No new Air Bud has been announced, leaving the fourteen-film run as the complete set for family viewing rather than an ongoing story.
Good to know
Watch the five Air Bud sports films in order first, since Josh aging and Buddy's family assume the run. The Buddies and Santa Paws entries reset with talking puppies, safe in any order as kid extras. Each sport stands alone around its tournament, so the later films need no setup beyond loving dogs who play.
