About Anchorman

Anchorman follows 1970s San Diego newsman Ron Burgundy and his Channel 4 team through ego, rivalry and Veronica Corningstone's rise. The sequel jumps the team to 1980 and a 24 hour news channel, while Wake Up, Ron Burgundy stitches an alternate film from the first shoot's extra footage.

Watch the 2004 original first, then the sequel. Wake Up is optional: it reuses the same shoot with a different plot about a bank robbery, so slot it after the original if completism appeals and skip it otherwise. The two main films form the real story.

Good to know

Wake Up, Ron Burgundy was assembled from cut material and released straight to video, which is why it mirrors the original's cast and period without continuing anything. Adam McKay directed both main films, with the sequel arriving nine years later. No third film is in development, so the Burgundy saga closes with part two.
