About Army of the Dead
Army of the Dead (2021) follows Ward's crew robbing a Vegas vault during a zombie outbreak, opening May 21, 2021 on Netflix from Zack Snyder. Army of Thieves (2021) rewinds to safecracker Dieter months earlier across Europe, opening October 29, 2021 from Matthias Schweighofer. The two share Dieter, the Götterdämmerung safe and the time loop hint.
Chronologically Thieves comes first as a pre outbreak prequel, but it spoils who lives through Vegas. Snyder confirmed via TheWrap in August 2024 that Planet of the Dead and Lost Vegas animated series were shelved. Watch Dead then Thieves, since the prequel was written to deepen a death you already saw.
Good to know
Release order beats chronological here, since Thieves assumes you know Dieter's Vegas fate. Chronological order runs Thieves then Dead, best saved for rewatch. Both films dropped in 2021 within five months, so use May then October to keep them straight. Treat the universe as cancelled complete, with no sequel or series moving forward at Netflix.
