About Alone in the Dark

Alone in the Dark from 2005 stars Christian Slater as Edward Carnby on a loose take of The New Nightmare game, with Tara Reid and Stephen Dorff. It earned 12.7 million on a 20 million budget and sits near the bottom of game adaptation lists.

Alone in the Dark II from 2008 swaps to Rick Yune as Carnby for an unrelated witch hunt story, released direct to video in the US in 2010. Uwe Boll optioned the rights back from THQ Nordic in December 2025 for a reboot closer to the 2024 game, but no cast or shoot date exists.

Good to know

Watch the 2005 film, then the 2008 sequel in that order. The stories do not connect beyond Carnby name and monster tone, so order matters little past seeing the original first. The reboot stays yearless until Event Films sets a shoot date. A TV series idea from the same team is only talk for now with no network attached.
