About Arnaud Desplechin
Arnaud Desplechin, born October 31, 1960 in Roubaix, debuted with The Sentinel in 1992 after La Vie des morts, then made My Sex Life in 1996 and Esther Kahn in 2000. Kings and Queen in 2004 and A Christmas Tale in 2008 brought wider notice, both built around restless families and returning characters played by Mathieu Amalric and Emmanuelle Devos.
My Golden Days followed in 2015, Brother and Sister in 2022, and the Lyon pianist romance Two Pianos in 2025 after its Toronto premiere. Watch the seven in release order. Characters recur, but each film explains itself, and release order lets you track the family saga as Desplechin shot it.
Good to know
Paul Dedalus and friends return across films, yet each story works on its own, so no separate timeline order is needed. The full first name Arnaud matters for search, since short forms cause mix ups. Desplechin remains active after Two Pianos in October 2025, so expect additions. For a short path, try Kings and Queen, A Christmas Tale and My Golden Days.
