About Azumi
Azumi spans two films about the young swordswoman raised to kill warlords. Ryuhei Kitamura directs the 2003 original with Aya Ueto, while Shusuke Kaneko takes the 2005 sequel Death or Love with Ueto returning alongside Chiaki Kuriyama for the mission's end.
Watch the original before the sequel since the mission continues directly. Both adapt Yu Koyama's manga, and with no third film announced the 2005 entry closes the run for the assassin's story. Kitamura handles the first with Kaneko closing the duology in period style.
Good to know
Release order matches story order as a direct two film run, so no alternate list is needed. Only the first film is Kitamura's, which trips up listings crediting him with both. Completed with the 2005 sequel and no continuation announced. The manga by Yu Koyama spans more story than the films adapt in two outings.
