About Basket Case
Basket Case premiered December 31, 1981 and went wide April 2, 1982 with Duane Bradley carrying basket-bound twin Belial against the doctors who split them. Shot on 16mm for about 35,000 dollars by Frank Henenlotter in New York, it became a midnight hit and was preserved by MoMA in 2017. Basket Case 2 from March 2, 1990 hides the brothers with Granny Ruth's freak community.
Basket Case 3: The Progeny from February 21, 1992 makes Belial a father and splits the brothers. Henenlotter directed all three. The second and third lean harder into comedy and rubber suits, but the plot runs straight through.
Good to know
Watch in release order without skipping, since part 3 opens with footage from part 2 and assumes you know Granny Ruth's house. The first film works as horror, the sequels as comedy horror, so expect that slide. Duane's name spelling shifts in credits across entries, which confuses lists but changes nothing in story. With Henenlotter moved on, the 1992 entry remains the finale.
