About Hobgoblins
Hobgoblins from July 14, 1988 follows guard Kevin releasing fantasy-granting aliens from a studio vault, made for about 15,000 dollars by Rick Sloane. It flopped theatrically then grew through VHS and the MST3K episode 907. Hobgoblins 2 from June 23, 2009 puts McCreedy in a mental hospital as new kids face the same puppets.
Sloane shot the sequel on 35mm ends to match the original look with the same script and puppets. No third film has been announced. The pair spoof Gremlins and Ghoulies with hand puppets and no CGI, which is the whole appeal.
Good to know
Release order is the only order, since part 2 deliberately mirrors part 1. Expect identical beats with different actors, which is intentional rather than a mistake. The MST3K cut is a fun extra after the uncut original, not a replacement. With Sloane quiet since 2009 and no sequel dated, the 2009 disc remains the end.
