About Ghoulies
Ghoulies started in 1985 when Jonathan Graves inherits his father's mansion and accidentally conjures small demons through a satanic ritual. The film opened January 18, 1985 after a Las Vegas premiere in late 1984, and earned about 35 million dollars on a small Empire Pictures budget. Ghoulies II from July 31, 1987 moves the creatures to a carnival haunted house where they are mistaken for part of the show.
Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College arrived straight to video on September 18, 1991 with Kevin McCarthy, and it is the first entry where the creatures talk. Ghoulies IV from August 17, 1994 follows cop Jonathan Graves in L.A. against Faust and uses actors in suits instead of puppets. No new film has been announced.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order worth listing, since the four films share no continuing characters beyond the creatures themselves. Watch in release order. Part III is often dated 1990 on box art because of video production timing, but the U.S. video release was September 1991. Part IV looks different because of the suit performers, which is why fans usually rank the first two above it.
