About Battle Royale
Battle Royale from December 2000 strands 42 ninth graders on an island under Kinji Fukasaku with Kitano overseeing. It cost about 4.5 million and earned about 30 million. Requiem from July 2003 sends a new class after survivor Shuya's Wild Seven cellar with paired collars, directed by Kinji and Kenta Fukasaku.
Both adapt from Takami's setup with the sequel going to war scale. The Revenge cut restores 20 minutes to Requiem for the fuller version. Release order matches Shuya's arc from student to most wanted.
Good to know
Watch the 2000 film before Requiem, since the sequel assumes Shuya's survival and notoriety from the island. Seek the Revenge cut of Requiem for the better received edit with restored character work. The program rules change between films, so the paired collars need the original first. No third film has been announced, so Requiem is the endpoint.
