About The Beastmaster
The Beastmaster (1982) rides the post-Conan barbarian wave: Marc Singer's Dar talks to animals, Marc Singer's abs do the rest, and a ferret crime spree steals the film. Beastmaster 2 (1991) drops Dar into modern Los Angeles, and Beastmaster III (1996) sends him after a young oracle as a TV film.
The syndicated BeastMaster series (1999 to 2002) reboots Dar with a new actor across three seasons of weekly adventures. The films connect loosely in release order; the series is its own continuity. Watch the 1982 original first either way: everything else trades on its animal-sidekick formula.
Good to know
The ferrets Podo and Kodo outlived every human plotline in fan memory, which tells you the tone to expect. Beastmaster 2's time-travel-to-LA premise plays broader than the original's earnest fantasy. The TV series recasts Dar and reworks the mythology, so treat it as a separate take after the films. No revival had been announced at the last check, though the original's cable afterlife keeps it alive.
