About Clash of the Titans
Clash of the Titans (1981) is Harryhausen's farewell showcase: Perseus, Pegasus, Medusa and the Kraken in stop-motion glory. The 2010 remake retells the myth with blockbuster scale, and Wrath of the Titans (2012) continues the remake's continuity with Ares and the Makhai.
The 1981 original stands alone; the 2010 and 2012 films form a duology. Watch the original first for the effects landmark, then the remake pair as a separate take. Release order shows the Kraken evolving from puppet to pixels. No third remake-chapter was made, so Wrath is the endpoint.
Good to know
Harryhausen's Medusa sequence is the 1981 film's reason to exist and still the definitive screen version. The 2010 remake's 3D post-conversion was famously derided; the 2D version plays better. Wrath improves on its predecessor but still underperformed, ending the reboot line. The sequel's father-son themes land harder if the remake is fresh.
