About Beethoven
Beethoven began in 1992 with the Newton family adopting the St. Bernard puppy against George's will. Beethoven's 2nd (1993) follows the litter with Missy. Later entries recast around new families: the 3rd (2000) on an RV trip, the 4th (2001) with the VA switch, the Big Break (2008), the Christmas Adventure (2011), Treasure Tail (2014) and the animated series in 1994.
Charles Grodin and Bonnie Hunt led only the first two, with Judge Reinhold carrying the middle films. No new Beethoven has been announced, leaving the puppy-era entries as the current version for young viewers rather than a continuation.
Good to know
Watch the first two in order as the essential pair, since the Newton family and the dognappers assume both. Later films reset with new kids and Beethoven voices, safe in any order as kid extras. The 1994 animated series shares the name with original-style adventures, fitting anywhere after the first film as a bonus.
