About Black Phone
The Black Phone (2021) follows Finney Blake, a Denver teen locked in the Grabber's basement who takes calls from past victims on a dead phone. It premiered at Fantastic Fest on September 25, 2021 and opened wide on June 24, 2022. Black Phone 2 (2025) moves four years later, with Finney and Gwen pulled back to the same lake camp by calls that suggest the evil survived.
Scott Derrickson directed both Blumhouse films for Universal, with the sequel opening October 17, 2025 after moving off June. The two form a direct pair, with the second assuming you know who lived and how the phone worked. Derrickson has said no third film has been discussed, so the duology stands complete for now.
Good to know
Watch in release order, since the sequel reuses names, deaths and rules from the basement without re-explaining them. There is no separate chronological order, as part two starts four years after part one. The 2021 date refers to the festival premiere, with most viewers meeting it in 2022. Expect cold open scares in the sequel that land harder if the first film is fresh.
