About Blacula

Blacula is Prince Mamuwalde, played by William Marshall, an 18th century African prince who confronts Dracula and is cursed with vampirism for it. American International released the first film in August 1972 and it became the first blaxploitation horror hit, winning the first Saturn Award for Best Horror Film.

Scream Blacula Scream followed in June 1973 with Pam Grier as a voodoo queen who resurrects Mamuwalde. The sequel picks up after the original and ends the story, so release order is the whole guide.

Good to know

There is no separate chronological order worth listing. The two films form one short chain with the sequel directly continuing the original, so release order and story order are the same list. Watch the 1972 film first for the origin, then the 1973 sequel for the voodoo resurrection plot in Los Angeles.
