Bob Rafelson made the Monkees before directing Five Easy Pieces in 1970 with Nicholson dinering. The King of Marvin Gardens followed in 1972 with ex cons dreaming, then Stay Hungry in 1976 pumping Schwarzenegger.
The Postman Always Rings Twice arrived in 1981 baking Lange, Black Widow in 1987 trailing Winger, and Mountains of the Moon in 1990 exploring Burton. The films share drifters and pianos but separate plots, so release order tracks the BBS spirit fading. The piano keys and desert motels carry every drifter with ache.
