About Bolt
Bolt follows TV dog Bolt, voiced by John Travolta, who thinks he has powers until a road trip with Mittens and Rhino teaches him otherwise. It premiered November 17, 2008 and opened wide November 21, 2008 from Chris Williams and Byron Howard. The film cost 150 million, earned 310 million and lost the Oscar to WALL-E.
Super Rhino arrived March 22, 2009 on the Bolt DVD and Blu-ray from director Nathan Greno. Mark Walton voices Rhino with Miley Cyrus as Penny. Rhino dreams he has powers and saves Penny and Bolt from Dr. Calico. No Bolt 2 was ordered, with only cameos in later Disney films.
Good to know
Watch Bolt, then Super Rhino. The short runs 4 minutes and plays as Rhino dream after the film, so it only works second. Super Rhino was not in the Shorts Collection volume 1 and streams as a 2009 extra. Bolt also cameos in Wreck-It Ralph and Big Hero 6, but those are nods rather than required viewing.
