Atlantis: The Lost Empire Watch Order

Disney's Atlantis has two films: The Lost Empire from June 15, 2001 and Milo's Return from May 20, 2003. Watch the 2001 theatrical film first, then the 2003 direct to video sequel. The second picks up months later, so release order and story order match.

About Atlantis: The Lost Empire

Atlantis: The Lost Empire follows Milo Thatch, voiced by Michael J. Fox, on a 1914 expedition to the sunken city with Kida, voiced by Cree Summer. It premiered June 3, 2001 and opened wide June 15, 2001 from directors Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise. The film runs 95 minutes and is rated PG.

Atlantis: Milos Return arrived May 20, 2003 as a 70 minute direct to video feature from Disney Television Animation. James Arnold Taylor voices Milo with the team back for three linked cases built from the unproduced Team Atlantis series. A planned theatrical sequel and series were dropped after the first film underperformed.

Good to know

Watch the 2001 film, then the 2003 sequel. Milos Return opens with Milo married to Queen Kida and rebuilding the city, so it needs the first film first. The three segments named Kraken, Spirit of the West and Spear of Destiny play in disc order. No third film was made, though games Search for the Journal and Trial by Fire tie to the first film.
