About Moana
Moana follows a wayfinder chief's daughter who sails beyond the reef to restore the heart of Te Fiti, with the demigod Maui as her reluctant guide. The 2016 film is a complete story, and Moana 2 picks up three years later with Moana leading her own crew to reconnect scattered ocean peoples.
The 2026 live-action film retells the 2016 story with a new cast rather than continuing it. Treat it as an alternate version to watch after the animated films, not as the next chapter. A third animated film is in development but has no date yet.

The animated films play in a straight line, so release order is story order. Gone Fishing is a short gag set around the first voyage and takes two minutes.
