About Cats & Dogs
Cats and Dogs (2001) imagines a secret war between spy cats and dogs, with Lou the beagle puppy foiling Mr. Tinkles: live action with talking-animal effects at their turn-of-the-century peak. The Revenge of Kitty Galore (2010) continues with a new kid and cast, and Paws Unite (2020) reboots with a puppy wiretapping plot.
The three films form one loose continuity in release order, tracking new kid heroes each time while the animal agencies persist. The puppet-to-CGI evolution across the trilogy is visible in every frame. Kids who love talking animals can watch straight through; adults will find the first film the only essential one.
Good to know
The cast reboots with each film, so only the agency premise carries over: no character homework needed. Kitty Galore is the fan-favorite villain and the second film's reason to exist. Paws Unite went direct to video with a smaller scale that suits younger viewers. No fourth film has been announced, so the trilogy is the complete set for now.
