About Daddy's Home
Daddy's Home stars Will Ferrell as Brad, a stepfather trying to win over his wife's kids, and Mark Wahlberg as Dusty, the biological father who shows up and turns it into a contest. The first film is a straight duel over who the kids call Dad, with Linda Cardellini caught in the middle and John Cena as a complication.
Daddy's Home 2 keeps Brad and Dusty together as co dads and adds their own fathers for Christmas. John Lithgow plays Brad's kind father and Mel Gibson plays Dusty's tough one, so the rivalry repeats one generation up. Paramount released it in November 2017 as a holiday entry.
Good to know
Release order and story order are the same here. The sequel assumes Brad and Dusty already settled their feud and are co parenting, so starting with part two spoils the arc of part one. There is no third film announced, and the two entries tell a complete story about the blended family finding a working truce.
