About David O. Russell
David O. Russell debuted with Spanking the Monkey in 1994 about a son stuck home. Flirting with Disaster followed in 1996 road tripping adoptees, then Three Kings in 1999 stealing Gulf gold. I Heart Huckabees arrived in 2004 dueling detectives.
The Fighter came in 2010 boxing Ward, Silver Linings Playbook in 2012 dancing Cooper, American Hustle in 2013 conning feds, Joy in 2015 mopping empires, and Amsterdam in 2022 stacking friends. The films share families yelling love but separate plots, so release order tracks the farce peaking.
Good to know
Watch oldest to newest since each family resets its house. Spanking first sets the taboo base far from later warmth. Fighter and Hustle pair as his Bale peak to give full focus. Amsterdam closes as the ensemble turn. No next feature has a date yet, so Amsterdam stays last until one lands. The Oscar gold confirms the hustle, so give Hustle full attention.
