About Dee Rees
Dee Rees debuted with Pariah in 2011 about Alike coming out in Brooklyn. Bessie followed in 2015 with Latifah as the blues empress on HBO. Mudbound arrived in 2017 splitting two Mississippi families after war.
The Last Thing He Wanted came in 2020 with Hathaway chasing arms deals. The works share land and labor but no plots link at all. Each runs patient and blue on purpose. Release order shows her short roots widening to epic with the same care intact throughout. Her short roots show in the portrait frames and blue light used throughout.
Good to know
Watch oldest to newest since each land resets its folk. Pariah first sets the Brooklyn base for the run. Bessie and Mudbound pair as her music war peak to give full focus. Last Thing closes as the thriller turn. No next feature has a date yet, so the 2020 deal film stays last until one lands. Her Oscar nods confirm the craft, so give Mudbound full attention.
