About Dolemite
Dolemite is Rudy Ray Moore toast persona turned film hero, a pimp and club owner framed and fighting back with kung fu help. Moore self financed the 1975 original for about 120000 dollars and it earned millions, becoming a cult anchor. The Human Tornado followed in 1976 with Dolemite fleeing to California, and The Return of Dolemite arrived in 2002 as The Dolemite Explosion on DVD.
Eddie Murphy plays Moore in Dolemite Is My Name from October 2019, which tells how the 1975 film got made rather than continuing Dolemite story. Watch the three Moore films in release order, then the biopic as bonus.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order worth listing. The Moore films from 1975 to 2002 follow Dolemite forward in release sequence, so release order and story order are the same list. Shaolin Dolemite from 1999 uses Moore as Monk Ru Dee and the 2019 Murphy film is about Moore himself, both outside the core Dolemite run.
