About Doom (films)
Doom has two films that share demons and little else. Doom (2005) puts Dwayne Johnson and Karl Urban in a space-marine squad on Olduvai, famously ending in a first-person sequence that apes the game. Doom: Annihilation (2019) reboots direct to video with a new squad, female lead and closer demon designs.
Neither film needs the other or the games: pick either as a standalone action night. Release order shows the two attempts side by side, big-budget versus scrappy. The games' actual lore (Hell portals, the Slayer) is background rather than plot in both. No third film has been announced.
Good to know
The 2005 film's FPS sequence runs about five minutes and is the main reason to watch it: pure novelty that still works. Annihilation was made without the 2005 cast or continuity and plays better at midnight-movie expectations. Both films sidestep the games' Slayer mythology entirely. The television and sequel talk around the 2005 release never materialized, so the pair is the complete set.
