About Expendables
The Expendables gathers aging mercenaries led by Barney Ross, played by Sylvester Stallone. The first film (2010) takes a job against a Latin dictator. The second (2012) hunts Jean Vilain after a teammate is killed. The third (2014) faces founding member turned villain Stonebanks. Expend4bles (2023) brings Jason Statham forward while adding Megan Fox, 50 Cent and Tony Jaa.
Each entry was built as a reunion of action stars, with Schwarzenegger, Willis, Van Damme, Snipes, Banderas and Ford cycling through. No fifth film has been dated, but Stallone and Statham have both said in interviews the door stays open.
Good to know
Watch one through four in release order, since character deaths and roster changes carry forward. The third film recut to PG-13 disappointed fans and the fourth reset the team, so expect a tone shift late in the run. The planned spinoff around Statham's Christmas never became its own film, and its setup pays off inside the fourth movie instead of outside it.
