About Fast & Furious
In twenty-two years the Fast saga grew from a street racing thriller about an undercover cop into globe-trotting heist movies with a submarine chase and a car launched into space. Ten mainline films and one spin-off are out, and Fast X (2023) stops on a cliffhanger that Fast Forever is meant to resolve.
The wrinkle is Tokyo Drift. It arrived third, in 2006, but the series then walked backward: Fast & Furious (2009), Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6 are all set before it, and F9 later reveals that Han's death there was faked. Release order is how everyone saw the films and where the callbacks land. Story order moves Tokyo Drift to sixth place, right after Fast & Furious 6, whose post-credits scene hands off to it.
Good to know
Fast Forever, the eleventh film, is dated March 17, 2028 and had not started production when this was checked, so both lists end at Fast X. Hobbs & Shaw goes after The Fate of the Furious and before F9 by most timelines, though Collider argues for after F9. The animated series Spy Racers and the shorts Turbo Charged Prelude and Los Bandoleros are optional. A Fast & Furious series is in development at Peacock with no date.
