About Fifty Shades
Fifty Shades adapts E. L. James's novels about Anastasia Steele and billionaire Christian Grey. Grey (2015) from Sam Taylor-Johnson covers the contract and the breakup. Darker (2017) from James Foley reunites them against old flames. Freed (2018) marries them and turns the honeymoon into a kidnapping rescue.
Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan played the leads across all three February releases. The trilogy finished the novels in 2018, and neither the studio nor the author has announced further Grey films, leaving Freed as the planned close.
Good to know
Watch one through three in release order, since the contract terms, the proposal and the pregnancy all build directly. The second and third films share a director and a warmer visual style than the first, which makes the trilogy feel of two halves. The books add inner monologue the films skip, but no plot needed for the movies sits only in print.
