About Fritz Lang

Fritz Lang directed features from Halbblut in 1919 through the Spinnen serials, Der mude Tod in 1921, Dr. Mabuse in 1922, Die Nibelungen in 1924, Metropolis in 1927, Spione in 1928, Frau im Mond in 1929, M in 1931 and the Mabuse Testament in 1933.

Liliom in 1934 opened the exile run, with Fury in 1936, Man Hunt in 1941, Woman in the Window in 1944, Scarlet Street in 1945, The Big Heat in 1953, While the City Sleeps in 1956 and the Thousand Eyes of Dr. Mabuse in 1960 closing the run. Watch in release order, since the German epics and American noirs share tools but no continuity.

Good to know

These are standalone stories with no shared continuity, so no chronological order exists. M, Fury, Woman in the Window, Scarlet Street and The Big Heat make the clearest core. The Mabuse films return to one villain across decades but each plays alone. The run closed with the Thousand Eyes of Dr. Mabuse in 1960, sixteen years before Lang's death in 1976.
