About Gamera
Gamera starts in 1965 as Daiei’s turtle answer to Godzilla with Gamera the Giant Monster. The Showa run to 1980 adds Gyaos, Viras and Jiger as kid friendly foes across 8 films. The series pauses, then returns with Gamera: Guardian of the Universe from 1995.
Attack of Legion from 1996 and Revenge of Iris from 1999 close the Heisei trilogy as the fan peak. Gamera the Brave from 2006 reboots small, while Gamera Rebirth from 2023 on Netflix runs 6 anime episodes with new Gyaos fights. Each era stands alone, so era order beats timeline order.
Good to know
Watch the 1965 film first for history, then jump to the Heisei trilogy for the best run. The Showa sequels suit sampling rather than a straight marathon. Gamera the Brave and Rebirth each start fresh and fit anywhere after Guardian of the Universe. No new film had been dated as of September 2026, so Rebirth stands as the latest step.
