About Gordon Hessler
Gordon Hessler stepped in for Michael Reeves on The Oblong Box in 1969, a Poe flavored horror with Vincent Price and Christopher Lee. Two Price films followed in 1970: Scream and Scream Again, a science fiction horror with Price, Lee and Peter Cushing, and Cry of the Banshee, a witch hunt story with Price and Hildegard Neil.
Murders in the Rue Morgue arrived in 1971 with Jason Robards after Price left the project, then Embassy in 1972 and The Golden Voyage of Sinbad in 1973 with Ray Harryhausen effects. This pick closes with Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park in 1978. Watch in release order. The three Price films sit together and show how Hessler handled the same star across different tones.
Good to know
These are standalone stories with no shared continuity, so there is no chronological order to untangle. The Oblong Box was inherited from Reeves during pre production, which explains the Reeves style overlap. Start with Cry of the Banshee or Scream and Scream Again for the core Hessler Price run. The run is complete. Hessler died in January 2014 after a long later career in television.
