About Gracie Fields
Gracie Fields (1898 to 1979) was a music hall star who became a top British screen draw in the 1930s. Sally in Our Alley from 1931 gave her the song Sally, Looking on the Bright Side from 1932 and This Week of Grace from 1933 kept the working class comedy going. Sing As We Go from 1934, shot in Blackpool, is often named her best.
Look Up and Laugh from 1935, Queen of Hearts from 1936, The Show Goes On from 1937 and Shipyard Sally from 1939 round out the decade with shops, theatres and Clydebank docks. Each film stands alone, so release order shows her screen persona settle and hold steady through the Depression years.
Good to know
These eight are the core 1930s run, not every late credit such as Holy Matrimony in 1943 or Paris Underground in 1945. The plots do not connect, so there is no second timeline to untangle. Fields sings in each entry, which is why music and musical both fit as tags. She died in 1979, so this run is closed and safe to watch in this order.
