About Jack Buchanan
Jack Buchanan was the urbane Scots singer, dancer and actor who bridged London revue and screen musical comedy. This guide follows eight features in release order, opening with the early Hollywood musicals Paris in 1929 and the Lubitsch-directed Monte Carlo in 1930.
The British middle run covers Good Night, Vienna in 1932, Yes, Mr Brown in 1933, Brewster's Millions in 1935, This'll Make You Whistle in 1936, and Break the News in 1938 with Maurice Chevalier. It closes with his celebrated late role in The Band Wagon in 1953 with Fred Astaire. Release order follows his polish from stage charmer to screen veteran.
Good to know
Buchanan made about thirty cinema features, so this is a starter pick of eight musicals and comedies, not a full filmography. Release order matches story order here, since the films are standalone, so no separate chronological list is needed. His late Hollywood turn in The Band Wagon caps the list. He died in 1957, so this guide is completed.
