About Guillermo del Toro

Guillermo del Toro debuted with Cronos in 1993, then made Mimic in 1997, The Devils Backbone in 2001 and Blade II in 2002. Hellboy arrived in 2004, Pans Labyrinth in 2006 and Hellboy II in 2008, followed by Pacific Rim in 2013 and Crimson Peak in 2015.

The Shape of Water won best picture in 2017, then Nightmare Alley in 2021 and Pinocchio in 2022, which won the animated feature Oscar. Frankenstein opened in November 2025 on Netflix with Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi. Watch in release order, since the Spanish films and English films speak to each other across years.

Good to know

These are standalone stories with no shared continuity, so there is no chronological order to untangle. Pans Labyrinth and The Devils Backbone form a thematic pair about the Spanish Civil War but tell separate stories. Pinocchio was co-directed with Mark Gustafson. Frankenstein is the latest released, with no next feature dated as of October 2026.
