About Jules Dassin
Brute Force from 1947 opens the noir run inside a prison under Lancaster. The Naked City from 1948 follows on New York streets as an early police procedural. Thieves Highway from 1949 runs trucks and produce rackets.
Night and the City from 1950 takes Widmark hustling through London. Rififi from 1955 gives the silent heist peak in Paris after the blacklist exile. Never on Sunday from 1960 turns warm with Mercouri, and Topkapi from 1964 closes this run with an Istanbul jewel job. Criterion restored Rififi for new viewers.
Good to know
The noirs share mood but no plot, so release order shows exile shaping the work best. Start with Rififi for the heist peak, then Naked City for the street craft. Night and the City pairs well with Rififi as the London bookend. Topkapi plays lightest, so save it for last. He Who Must Die sits outside this core list.
