About Robert Siodmak
Phantom Lady from 1944 opens the noir run with Raines hunted through neon. The Spiral Staircase from 1946 follows a mute witness stalked at home. The Killers from 1946 gives Lancaster his debut as the Swede, earning Siodmak his Oscar nod.
Cry of the City from 1948 pits boyhood pals across the law. Criss Cross from 1949 reunites Lancaster in an armored heist of crosses. The Crimson Pirate from 1952 closes this run swashbuckling with Lancaster. Later German work extends it for noir completists tracking the exile years.
Good to know
The noirs share mood but no plot, so release order shows the craft arc best. Start with Killers for the debut peak, then Criss Cross for the heist high. Spiral Staircase plays as the horror turn. Crimson Pirate works as the fun palate cleanser after five noirs. Later exile films sit outside this core list.
