About Kasi Lemmons
Kasi Lemmons debuted directing Eves Bayou in 1997 about a Louisiana girl watching her dad. The Cavemans Valentine followed in 2001 with Jackson as a cave man sleuthing, then Talk to Me in 2007 profiling Petey Greene. Black Nativity arrived in 2013 musicalizing Langston Hughes.
Harriet came in 2019 with Erivo running the Tubman railroad. The films share memory and music but no plots link at all. Each runs humane and ghosted on purpose. Release order shows her actor eye widening from bayou to railroad intact.
Good to know
Watch oldest to newest since each memory resets its town. Eves Bayou first sets the bayou base for the run. Talk to Me and Harriet pair as her voice peaks to give full focus. Nativity breaks the run as musical. No next feature has a date yet, so the 2019 railroad film stays last until one lands. Her festival prizes confirm the voice, so give Bayou full attention.
