About Lawnmower Man
The Lawnmower Man from March 6, 1992 turns gardener Jobe Smith into a VR genius under Dr. Angelo, earning 32.1 million for New Line. King sued to remove his name since it shares only a mower scene with his short story. Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace from January 12, 1996 follows Jobe living in cyberspace with only Austin O'Brien returning.
Brett Leonard directed the original, Farhad Mann the sequel. Both center virtual reality horror with early CGI. No third film has been made. The two video games from 1993 and 1994 sit outside the film list.
Good to know
Release order is story order here, though the sequel recasts almost everyone. Expect dated CGI that was cutting edge in 1992 and creaky by 1996. The director's cut runs 142 minutes versus 108 theatrical, so pick one version and stick with it. With King disowned and no sequel dated, the 1996 entry remains the end.
