About Le Gendarme
Le Gendarme follows Ludovic Cruchot with Gerber at Saint-Tropez. The 1964 original sets nudists, nuns and traffic chaos with Louis de Funes. New York from 1965 moves the station abroad, while Marries from 1968 and Stroll from 1970 keep the barracks farce.
The Extraterrestrials from 1979 adds sci-fi soup gags, while the Gendarmettes from 1982 closes with new recruits. The six share the same station family, so release order tracks promotions and marriages best. No seventh film was made after Funes death.
Good to know
Start with Saint-Tropez or New York to test the humor, then take the rest in order. Marries and Stroll assume the station cast seen, so they play flat as entries. The Extraterrestrials can be skipped on a short run. The Gendarmettes works as a farewell rather than a fresh start, which keeps the series closed.
