Legally Blonde (2001) follows Elle Woods proving Harvard Law after a breakup, opening July 13, 2001. Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde (2003) takes Elle to Congress for Bruiser's bill, opening July 2, 2003. Legally Blondes (2009) shifts to Elle's British cousins in prep school, out April 28, 2009 direct to video with Witherspoon producing only. Elle TV Season 1 (2026) rewinds to high school Elle, premiering July 1, 2026 on Prime Video with season 2 renewed.
Legally Blonde 3 was announced in 2018 with Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor writing, with Witherspoon saying March 2026 it is still possible but undated. Watch films then Elle, since the prequel assumes you know the bend and snap payoff.
Good to know
Release order beats chronological first, since Elle TV spoils who Elle becomes. Chronologically Elle TV comes first as high school prequel, then 2001, 2003, then 2009 cousins spinoff. The 2009 spinoff shares no cast except family name, so it can be skipped. Treat Blonde 3 as announced but undated, with Kaling script still in work.
