About Lucrecia Martel
Martel debuted with La Cienaga in 2001, shot in Salta with Graciela Borges and Mercedes Moran around a stagnant pool summer, winning the Alfred Bauer Prize at Berlin. The Holy Girl followed in 2004, set in a hotel with Carlos Belloso and produced with Pedro Almodovar, premiering in Cannes competition.
The Headless Woman arrived in 2008 with Maria Onetto after a roadside hit, also in Cannes competition. Zama closed the run in 2017 from the Antonio Di Benedetto novel with Daniel Gimenez Cacho, premiering at Venice. Shorts and the Chocobar project sit outside this list. Watch in release order for the sound and heat to build.
Good to know
These are standalone stories with no shared continuity, so release order is the viewing order. The Salta trilogy shares place and class pressure but no plot or characters carry over. Zama from 2017 is the latest released, with the Chocobar documentary still in work as of October 2026. Start with La Cienaga or Zama for two clear doors in.
