About Michael Reeves
Michael Reeves directed only three features before his death in February 1969. The She Beast arrived in 1966 as a low budget Anglo Italian production about a resurrected witch, shot in Rome with Ian Ogilvy and Barbara Steele. The Sorcerers followed in 1967, a London story about an old couple who control a young man through hypnosis, with Boris Karloff and Catherine Lacey.
Witchfinder General closed the run in 1968, a Civil War story about Matthew Hopkins with Vincent Price and Ogilvy. It was made for Tigon and American International Pictures and became his best known film. Reeves was set to direct The Oblong Box next, but Gordon Hessler took over after his death. Watch the three in release order, since each shows a clear step up in control.
Good to know
These three films share no continuity, so there is no separate chronological order to follow. The She Beast is also listed as Revenge of the Blood Beast in some markets, and Witchfinder General played in the US as The Conqueror Worm. Start with Witchfinder General if you only want one, then go back to The Sorcerers. The run is complete, with no further films possible after Reeves died in 1969.
