About Niki Caro
Niki Caro broke out with Whale Rider in 2002 about a Maori girl claiming the ancestral role. North Country followed in 2005 with Theron suing over mine harassment, then McFarland USA in 2015 coached a Latino cross country team. The Zookeeper Wife arrived in 2017 hiding Jews in the Warsaw zoo.
Mulan came in 2020 as her Disney remake without songs, shot across New Zealand and China. The films share outsiders earning their place and wide landscape shots but no plot links. Release order shows her New Zealand roots widening to studio scale intact.
Good to know
Watch oldest to newest since each story resets its hero and land. Whale Rider first sets the tone for the rest of the run well. North Country and McFarland pair as her true story sports and court run. No next feature has a date yet, so the 2020 Disney film stays last until one is announced. Keep Whale Rider queued first since it sets the sea and song tone.
