About Nuri Bilge Ceylan
Nuri Bilge Ceylan films Anatolian men talking through guilt and pride. The early provincial run of Small Town, Clouds of May and Uzak uses family and friends as actors. Climates and Three Monkeys turn to marriage and cover ups. Once Upon a Time in Anatolia follows one night search with doctors and police.
Winter Sleep won the Palme dOr with a hotelier arguing through winter, Wild Pear Tree follows a graduate writer home, and About Dry Grasses follows a teacher under accusation. Release order shows the takes getting longer and the talk carrying more weight each time.
Good to know
Watch in release order. The films share themes and faces but no plot continuity, so there is no timeline to reorder. The short Cocoon from 1995 can wait until after Uzak as an origin sketch. His next feature Pale Sun is in post production with no date, so it stays out until dated. The long talks reward patience.
