About Oz Perkins
Oz Perkins directs restrained horror built on long silences, empty hallways and fairy-tale dread rather than jump scares. The Blackcoat's Daughter and I Am the Pretty Thing established his cold boarding-school tone. Gretel and Hansel brought that approach to a studio fable. Longlegs broke through in 2024 with an FBI serial-killer hunt tied to 1990s panic.
The Monkey and Keeper continued his 2025 run with Stephen King adaptation and isolated-hotel horror. The films share no continuity, only a fascination with grief, absent parents and cursed objects. Watching in release order shows how Perkins loosens his pacing from glacial to propulsive while keeping the same sound design and production team.
Good to know
Watch in release order. The films are standalone, so no plot order exists to untangle. Starting with Longlegs first is tempting after its box-office run, but the earlier micro-budget films explain the visual shorthand Perkins reuses later. Viewers sensitive to slow pacing should try Gretel and Hansel first as the shortest entry, then return to the start for the full progression.
